The Minutes of the previous meeting (Paris) were approved, as circulated, with the following amendments:-
1.1 250,OOOECU from IBM, not 20,000 as stated.
1.2 "working papers are confidential prior to a meeting and until the Executive Committee decides otherwise".
2.(1) CEPT - the President explained that he was not available to meet with the CEPT on the date proposed nor was the format of the meeting in accordance with that approved in Valencia. Stefano Trumpy is continuing his efforts to obtain a meeting.
The President reported the successful conclusion to the negotiations with DEC-Europe for support for the EARN ISO Migration Plan. A lengthy discussion took place. The Executive Committee expressed their support for the EARN/DEC ISO Migration programme and warmly welcomed the announcement (to be made during Telecom '87) by DEC of their intentions to provide support.
Joe Chester reported that packages containing material for EARN88 had been posted to all Board Members on October 7.
The President stated that he was hopeful that BITNET would resolve the WISC gateway problem.
David Lord stated that membership of BITNET by China could create problems in relation to export licensing requirements compliance for some nodes. The President, in discussion with BITNET, will reserve the right of EARN not to convey China traffic.
Further work approved.
The BoD will be asked to distribute all press releases and statements by the President in their countries.
Joe Chester is to prepare a paper on documentation handling. Meanwhile working papers must be distributed to members of the working group.
9.1 Olivier Martin will be requested to collect all relevant notes on the MVS problem.
9.2 It was agreed that the link PISA-CUNY should be cancelled
9.3 Alain Auroux reported the outcome of the meeting to discuss the topology for the immediate future to take account of the German PTT problem. There was lengthy discussion. The topology agreed by the Executive is as follows:-
Finland, Norway and Iceland to Sweden Sweden to Denmark Denmark to Netherlands Dublin to UK Turkey, Israel, Greece, Ivory Coast, Spain, Italy, to France (Montpellier) Belgium to France (Paris) Austria to Switzerland Germany to France (Montpellier - 64K) Netherlands to UK to France (Montpellier) to Switzerland to Netherlands (a group of four lines).
Alain Auroux was asked to coordinate the changes necessary to implement this topology.
9.4 If Germany wishes, and are willing to pay the full cost, a line from Switzerland to Germany may be retained.
