SPROGS Paper No 49: Use of the Tektronix from SPROGS

R E Thomas

September 10 1974

This paper describes how to set up output for the Tektronix from a SPROGS program.

1. Use the experimental SPROGS system, which can be accessed from :SPROGS. SPROGS macro.

2. Set up and select device 64. The basic screen size is 1024 × 780. Alternatively, the routine:

      TKTRON

will set up region 1 with limits 0,0,1023,1023 and will map it onto region 0 with limits 224,0,1023,779. This will preserve the square shape. TKTRON may replace routines such as SDHARD,SDFILM without changing anything else.

3. Hardware characters will be plotted successfully, but they are somewhat larger than the SD4020 characters. Using font 3, therefore, will tend to make character strings appear cramped.

4. Tektronix output is sent to stream TPO. Unless on-line working is required, this stream should be assigned to an ALLCHAR file:

      #TP0 MYFILE(ALLCHAR)

Subsequent listing of this file on the Tektronix will produce the required picture On-line use is described in SPROGS Technical Paper 25.

5. Tektronix files start with orders to clear the screen. Advance Frame orders cause two asterisks to be printed in the top left hand corner of the screen. ENDSPR wil1 leave the cursor at the top left hand corner. Single frame output will therefore appear correctly, but multiple frame output will cause each frame to overwrite the previous ones. It is possible to produce the 'clear frame' sequence at the head of a frame by calling the subroutine:

      TKINIT

6. The macro:

      FRSPLIT

has been provided to separate a normal multiple frame Tektronix file into separate files (one per frame) which can then be listed. Full details appear in 1906A Internal User Notice 93.
