SPROGS Note No 30: PDP15 and 1906A Update

R E Thomas

20 December 1973

PRP15

Training

The training of Operations Branch personnel in the use of the PDP15 has begun, and Alan Hancock is now programming the machine.

Hardware

Recently, DEC engineers have installed the LT19C board and the new disc and core successfully. They have also done a number of ECO's, but have not given us full information on these. The effects of these changes have been that the device number of the display keyboard and the second teletype have been switched, the old teletype may not now be connected, and the VT04 can address all store. This last modification has meant changes to graphics programs, in particular VTPRIM and any programs which have chained in old copies of this routine. JRG will check which programs are likely to be affected.

A modified spark pen proved unsuccessful.

Software

RSX3/DOS is due to be delivered on 20 December. The aim will be to get FOG and the Library implemented under RSX3 first, and then modify other programs, which should be changed to use FOG. As well as checking RSX3, the new DOS must be tested to see that it is adequate for our use.

1906A

SPROGS Version 2

The manual for this new system has been written and will shortly be available for proof reading. As issue of the system is not going to be on time, Version 2 will he released as soon as the new manual is ready. Changes to bring the software into line with the manual will be done as soon as possible.

New Display Routine

AJP has found a need to print the value of an index variable during the running of a program, and has written his own display routine for the purpose. When tested, this will be incorporated into the system.
