State of the Machine

J E Hailstone

14.12.66

Stores:

Record shows steady increase in incidents since July, especially bad since October shut down.

Troubles seem due to:

  1. soldered joints which have deteriorated
  2. old spikes outside read or write time: can be cured (often) by changing components, but cause not understood.

Associated with 964 boards (address solution), carrying out, slowly and methodically, mechanical examination of all 964 boards.

Consulting Plessey on (b) - coming 15/12/66, with Cornish of I.C.T.

Big increase in "No Parity Found": some evidence that these occur when machine is in Idling loop - especially since new version was put in. Have just reverted to old version and will observe.

JEH and PD to meet again Monday 19th December 1966.
